Parklife
Have had a wonderful weekend - lots of activities that haven't involved traipsing round the malls!
Friday and Saturday are our weekend and Fridays are big family days in the UAE - it's very quiet on the roads and normally people start coming out in the afternoon and early evening. This was the case on Friday when we went to Safa Park. It's a huge open green (yay!) space where families go to chill out and relax.
It's a nominal fee to get in which helps pay for the splendid upkeep and cleanliness.
Anyway, the big thing is to take a picnic - in Dubai that means LOADS of food - there are lots of barbecue stands so you can cook your own food and the smells of various delights waft through the park. Here is a shot of one feast ready for preparation - including shisha pipes!
This next picture doesn't really do justice - I was trying to show the huge numbers of people relaxing but doesn't really convey the large numbers there:
I was also trying hard not to offend anyone by taking their picture so obviously - this one I took of Lydia was also to show the group of lads out on a Friday night in Dubai!
There is a Ferris wheel in the park and Lydia was determined to go on it - She first when on with Clive and loved it so I went with her the next time - I can say I didn't love it as much! When I was younger I would go on every ride and love it but the older I get, the more reserved I am becoming!
Still, I got some good shots of The Burj Dubai Tower - the tallest structure in the world - still not finished but absolutely dominates the skyline:
Lastly some shots of the day - also have a video but Blogger giving me problems so will try and update later!
